The safest recommendation on this site for a side sleeper with a real budget. The zoned coil layer solves the central problem of side sleeping — needing softness at the shoulder and support at the hip simultaneously — and it does so without the heat of an all-foam mattress. Its weakness is that it comes in one firmness, so it is a poor fit if you already know you want firm.
What zoning actually does
The coil layer is not uniform. Coils under the shoulders are softer, letting the shoulder drop into the mattress; coils under the lumbar and hips are firmer, holding that heavier region up. For a side sleeper this matters more than any other single feature, because side sleeping puts the shoulder and the hip at very different support requirements and an unzoned mattress has to compromise between them.
