Construction & Feel
The Saatva Classic uses a dual coil-on-coil design (individually wrapped micro-coils over a support coil unit) with an organic cotton Euro-pillow-top. This gives it a responsive, bouncy feel with good airflow. You sleep more on top of this mattress than in it. The Tempur-Pedic uses proprietary TEMPUR memory foam in multiple layers. It has the classic slow-response memory foam feel where the material conforms to your body shape over several seconds. You sleep more in this mattress, with the foam cradling your pressure points.
Firmness Options
Saatva offers three firmness choices on the Classic: Plush Soft (3/10), Luxury Firm (5-7/10), and Firm (8/10). This range covers virtually every preference. Tempur-Pedic offers different firmness options across its model range, but any single model typically comes in one or two firmness levels. The TEMPUR-Cloud is a medium feel (around 5-6/10).
Cooling Performance
Saatva has the advantage here. The dual coil system creates natural airflow channels that prevent heat buildup, and the organic cotton cover is breathable. Tempur-Pedic's memory foam, while improved in newer formulations, still retains more body heat than a coil-based design. If you tend to sleep hot, Saatva is the safer choice unless you are willing to invest in Tempur-Pedic's breeze line.
Motion Isolation
Tempur-Pedic wins decisively for motion isolation. The dense TEMPUR foam absorbs movement before it can transfer across the surface. If your partner tosses and turns frequently, you are unlikely to feel it on a Tempur-Pedic. Saatva's coil system provides good motion isolation thanks to the pocketed coil design, but some movement will transfer, especially on softer settings.
Edge Support
Saatva excels at edge support due to its reinforced perimeter coil design. Sitting or sleeping near the edge feels secure and stable, effectively extending the usable surface area. Tempur-Pedic's foam construction offers moderate edge support but cannot match the structural reinforcement of Saatva's dual coil system.
Price & Value
Saatva Classic (Queen): approximately $1,695. TEMPUR-Cloud (Queen): approximately $1,699. The entry-level pricing is remarkably similar, but Saatva includes free White Glove delivery (in-room setup and old mattress removal) while Tempur-Pedic charges extra for this service. Saatva also offers a 365-night trial versus 90 nights for Tempur-Pedic, and a lifetime warranty versus 10 years.
Policies Comparison
Saatva provides a 365-night home trial, lifetime warranty with 1-inch sag threshold, and free White Glove delivery with old mattress removal. Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night trial, 10-year warranty, and free standard delivery with White Glove available for an additional fee. On policies alone, Saatva offers significantly more consumer-friendly terms.
