The best value in the mattress market, judged on what you get per dollar. A genuine coil hybrid with a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty under $700 should not be possible, and the compromises that make it possible are smaller than you would expect. The main one is that it is firmer than its marketing implies.
What you get for the money
Individually wrapped coils, several foam comfort layers, a quilted cashmere-blend cover, and a 14-inch profile. The specification sheet reads like a mattress costing twice as much, and the construction is real rather than nominal — these are genuine pocketed coils with foam encasement at the perimeter, not a foam base with a token spring layer. Combined with a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty, the value proposition is difficult to argue against on paper.
The firmness gap
DreamCloud markets the Classic as medium-firm and describes it in luxurious terms, and the most common complaint from actual owners is that it sleeps firmer than expected. Sleepers under about 150 pounds, especially side sleepers, frequently find that they do not sink far enough into the comfort layers to get shoulder relief. If you are light and sleep on your side, this is the wrong mattress and the Nectar at the same price is the better sibling. Above 180 pounds the firmness reads as intended.
Where the cost was saved
Two places, both defensible. The mattress is not manufactured in the United States, unlike most competitors in the premium tier. And the foams, while CertiPUR-US certified, are not the high-density formulations used in mattresses at triple the price, which means the comfort layer will soften sooner. Expect six to eight years rather than a decade. Neither compromise affects how the mattress feels in year one; both affect year seven.
The 365-night trial in practice
A year-long trial is genuinely useful rather than a marketing number, because mattress problems often appear in month four rather than week two. Most brands' 100-night windows close before a comfort layer starts to soften. Note that DreamCloud, like most brands offering long trials, requires a minimum break-in period — typically thirty nights — before accepting a return, which is reasonable and worth knowing before you start counting.
